Hoosier Energy Village Farm Site

In 2010, Gray & Pape was contracted by the Hoosier Energy Rural Electric Cooperative to conduct a Phase I archaeological survey on a property owned by the Merom Generating Station. The project included a variety of earth-disturbing activities, such as grading a filling, in a 217-acre area.

The project area had already been subjected to archaeological investigation, and nine archaeological sites, including both historic and prehistoric resources, had been identified. Gray & Pape conducted a survey to try and re-locate these sites, as well as identify any potential locations for previously unidentified resources. The survey revealed significant portions of the project area had been disturbed by construction in the past 40 years, and only four of the sites were relocated. However, none of these sites, nor three newly identified sites, were determined to be eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. Therefore, it was recommended that no further archaeological investigations were necessary.
